¶TOURNAMENT TIPS TO IDENTIFY YOUR FISH¶
During the Master Angler of Dundee Sportsman's Club Tournaments, you most
often find more than two family members in each boat. This caused major problems
when several anglers in the same boat came in to score their fish at the same
time. They could have 3 or 4 pike, walleye and perch in the live-well at the
same time. These fish are lively, and it is difficult to remember which fish
belongs to which angler, as they scoot around the tank. The committee felt there
was a need to be able to quickly identify your fish in the well prior to
scoring. To help, each boat entered in the 2003 tournaments were ask to use set of
color coded clips. If there were four anglers, they would need three different
colored clips. Each angler except one would use the same colored clip on their
three fish (pike, walleye, perch). The scoring station could quickly identify
angler A as red, angler B as blue, angler C as yellow and angler D as no clips.
This procedure is intended to eliminate confusion, give the proper angler
credits due, speed up fish handling time and reduce the possibility of recording
errors. This system was will be a success in 2003 and the committee recommends
continuation in the future tournaments. To avoid injuring the fish, the
following diagrams shows a good location for placing marking clips on walleye or
perch with a spined dorsal fin and on pike we recommend the leading edge of the
upper fin just in front of the tail.
