Whether
you are a proponent and
supporter of the
Sure
Fire Slackwater King Fishing
Technique
or deplore it, as long as
the methods, means, and
tackle conform to the legal
definitions of ADFG
sportfishing regulations, it
will be a viable and much
more acceptable method of
harvesting terminal fishery
kings than other more
aggressive methods which
result in foul-hooked fish,
wasted fishing time, and
sometimes illegal retention
of fish.
The
cartoon graphic depicting the
method and rigging mentions a
dropper loop. Below is the
way to tie this knot for
attaching egg/bait hooks or
artificial flies. Beware that
this knot is not a very strong
knot and I've found that it will
reduce the breaking strength to
about half of your line test.
But I've used this dropper loop
on 2#, 4#, and 8# test lines for
catching sockeye salmon using
light trout rods and corkies and
have never broke at the knot
yet. If you are fishing a
lighter line on a heavier rod,
just temper your hooking power
and the drag to prevent
break-offs.
You'll
find when tying this knot that
you must employ most of your
fingers and thumbs to perform
the tying procedure. But once
you have developed that finger
coordination, this knot is very
easy and quick to tie. Adjust
your beginning loop size to meet
your final dropper loop size
requirements.
